Rav Moshe Chaim Luzzatto, the Ramchal, was among our nation's greatest thinkers and kabbalists. Yet, as great as he was, he felt duty bound to write Mesillas Yesharim, a (relatively) simple work that stresses the basic character requirements needed for improving one's Divine service. Why? While all principles of Torah are very important, that which helps us change and brings us closer to what G-d wants of us, is most important.


Similarly, although the Sfas Emes al HaTorah is famously full of novel ideas, Kabbalah, and enlightening interpretations, its main objective is not simply intellectual.
