Birkas Hashulchan
A Halachic Guide To
A Torah-True Meal
"Even the act of eating, a function which we share with
the animal world, should become Divine Service, intended
to strengthen us in order to serve Hashem." - Rav Hirsch
Much more than a matter of satiating our bodies, the Jewish meal
is Avodas Hashem itself. Replete with halachos from handwashing
through bentsching, including careful attention to the appropriate
brachos and the order in which to recite them, the seudah is an
opportunity to elevate our everyday act of eating into an act of
Avodas Hashem through conscience adherence to His Will.
In this halachic guide, Rabbi Eliyahu Dov Glucksman zt"l simplifies
the principles required to engage in this holy activity. Comprising
the topics of Netilas Yodayim, Seudah, Birkas Hamazon, Brachos
on food, Birchos Reiyah and more, Birkas Hashulchan is an
indispensable sefer that brings these sections of Shulchan Aruch
to the table in a very practical format.
Birkas Hashulchan clarifies the halachos applicable to common
scenarios. Whether one is looking to master these relevant topics
or searching for an immediate answer, this sefer is a staple for the
Jewish home.
Born in pre-war Germany, Rabbi Eliyahu Dov Glucksman zt"l
was a talmid of the Chazon Ish and single musmach of the Steipler.
He later served as an esteemed member of the Bais Din of K'hal
Adath Jeshurun in Washington Heights and delivered classes on
practical Halachah to students in Breuers High School and
Seminary. Rabbi Glucksman published these shiurim in his lifetime,
as the original sefer Birkas Hashulchan. Newly revised, this volume
also includes the fascinating biographical sketch behind its
illustrious author, spanning continents and myriad challenges.
